Report: Arsenal and Manchester City-linked star Baba Rahman agrees Italy switch

AS Roma - Stadio Olympico

Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Augsburg’s Baba Rahman.

According to the latest reports from Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sports Italia, highly-rated Augsburg star Baba Rahman has agreed to join Serie A giants AS Roma on a five-year deal.

The Ghana international left-back drew plenty of plaudits last season as he became a key member of an Augsburg team who surprised all to clinch fifth place and a spot in next season’s Europa League.

As per a report in the Guardian, Arsenal and Manchester City were among a number of elite clubs interested and the Premier League duo have the scope to bring in a new fullback.

However, the latest news coming out of the Italian capital is that Rahman has already decided to join Roma, agreeing on a five-year contract with just a fee between the clubs now lacking.

“Roma director Walter Sabatini is working to bolster the wingback position. Today he reached an agreement with left back Baba but now needs to negotiate with Augsburg. Roma offered Baba a 5 year contract with annual wages of €2.2 million,” Sky Sports Italia's Di Marzio reports.

What are Arsenal ad Manchester City set to miss out on?

The 20-year-old was one of the best left-backs in Germany last season, appearing in 31 league matches and averaging 3.5 tackles and 2.7 interceptions per encounter.

He is quick, determined and skilful which allows him to go on marauding runs up and down the left flank, providing an extra attacking outlet while being able to cover back defensively.

Given his age, Rahman is already at an excellent standard and still has so much potential to offer – the type of player the Citizens are arguably crying out for in order to freshen up their aging squad.
