The Dutch international looks set to be on his way to St James Park.
The likes of AS Roma and local rivals Sunderland had also been linked with the player but the Chronicle Live reported today that his representatives had spoken to the club earlier in the week and were hopeful of getting a deal done after the weekend.
The Mirror also reported that the Dutch international had decided on Newcastle today, in a deal they believe could be worth up to £15 million.
Now, to add some fuel to the flames of this rumour, Wijnaldum has been left out of the PSV squad for their pre-season friendly against SV DOSKO.

PSV played a fairly strong team for the game, including the likes of Jurgen Locadia, Jeroen Zoet and Adam Maher – but Wijnaldum was nowhere to be seen.
They went on to win the game 6-0 without him against the Hoofdklaase (Dutch fourth tier) side.
Newcastle United’s new boss Steve McClaren is said to be a big fan of Wijnaldum from his time coaching in Holland with FC Twente.
All the signs arer pointing to the fact the Toon might have just snared him.
