Reported Newcastle United target Chancel Mbemba Mangulu has joked that he could be moving to Real Madrid this summer, according to quotes published in AS.
According to the Spanish sports paper, the Anderlecht defender is on the radar of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid’s city-rivals.
The highly-rated 20-year-old centre-back, though, then gave a serious response to speculation on his future.
“I am not thinking about a transfer now,” said Mangulu. “They are my agent’s matters. I have nothing certain.
“What I know is that I have a contract with Anderlecht until 2017. If they do not reach an agreement with any club, I will stay. But I will not renew my contract.”
Blow for Newcastle United?
Atletico’s reported interest in Mangulu means that the Magpies will find it extremely hard to convince him to move to St. James’ Park, if indeed they are still interested in him.
The Spanish club will play in the Champions League next season and will also be competing for La Liga title.
Newcastle, who narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, can at most hope for a top-10 finish next season.
