HITC Sports understands Bolton defender Alex Baptiste will seal his move to Middlesbrough on Monday to become their first signing of the summer.
Baptiste underwent a medical at Middlesbrough over the weekend and he has agreed a three-year deal to join Aitor Karanka's men.
Karanka is thought to be a big fan of Baptiste, who can play in central defence and right-back, and it is thought Karanka has earmarked him for a centre-back role at the Riverside as he looks to go one better than last season when they lost to Norwich City in the play-off final.
Bolton have decided to sell Baptiste to free up funds to allow Trotters manager Neil Lennon the opportunity to try and strengthen his squad elsewhere.
Baptiste spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, making 34 appearances and scoring three goals during his time at Ewood Park.
The versatile defender has a wealth of experience having played in the Premier League with Blackpool and he has made over 250 appearances in his career to date.
