Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has taken to social networking site Twitter in order to tell supporters he is back from his summer holiday and raring to go in the club’s pre-season campaign.
The Reds star’s future was heavily speculated upon heading into the summer after injuries and increased competition for places has restricted him to just 12 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons.
The 29-year-old joined the Merseyside outfit from Newcastle United in 2011, but the introduction of Jon Flanagan and the signing of Alberto Moreno means he has dropped far down the pecking order.
Still, Enrique has a contract until 2016 and in what could be his final season at the club, the Spaniard is keen to get off to a good start by returning early and gearing up for the pre-season campaign.
Back in liverpool. Ready to start preseason. Can't wait to see my team mates and start Again to play football— José enrique (@Jesanchez3) July 5, 2015
Brendan Rodgers and his men have a taxing pre-season ahead of them, travelling to Thailand to take on al All Stars team on July 14 before playing two games in Australia and a further match in Malaysia.
The entire squad will be expected to feature at some point, and it provides the fringe players such as Enrique to make an impression and try and work themselves into Rodgers’ first-team plans.
The former Villarreal star still has plenty to offer, though his first challenge will be to prove his fitness by steering clear of those niggling injuries which have so far hampered his time at Anfield.
