Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Gonzalo Higuain's Copa America nightmare

Gonzalo Higuain Argentina

The Argentina striker, linked with a move to the Reds, suffered more final heartache on Saturday night.

Gonzalo Higuain is a name that's been linked with Liverpool for some time now. Every summer or so, someone, somewhere mentions the 27-year-old in relation with a move to Anfield.

This transfer window has been no different, with the likes of the Liverpool Echo citing reports in Italy that suggest the striker wants a move to Merseyside. A move still looks as unlikely as ever but things can change quickly when it comes to big transfers - just look at Mario Balotelli last summer.

And, however probable or improbable any deal looks, Liverpool fans were still very interested in Higuain's performance when he came on for Argentina during Saturday night's Copa America final clash with Chile.

Sadly, they saw a man fluff his lines for the second major international final in a row. In the World Cup, Higuain missed a sitter (it can certainly be called that for a finisher of his class) and, in the Copa America, he blasted his penalty way over the bar during the shootout Argentina went on to lose 4-1. He was also wasteful once again before the spot-kicks.

But how did Reds fans react on Twitter? Apart from those who mocked the 27-year-old and those who said they are no longer impressed, a huge number of Liverpool supporters feel Higuain's international nightmare could yet work in the Anfield side's favour...
