Leeds United have been linked with the Stoke City midfielder so what do fans of the Championship side think about it?
The report claims Leeds manager Uwe Rosler sees Sidwell as the kind of player who can help his new side earn promotion next season and the rumour has certainly got fans of the club talking on social media.
Sidwell has one year left on his Stoke contract, and after very little game-time last season it would be no surprise to see him move on.
The 32-year-old played just 16 times for Stoke and only 12 times in the Premier League, and while a minor knee injury played a part he was more often than not an unused substitute, featuring for just 37 minutes in the final 17 games of the Potters’ campaign.
Sidwell has previously played for the likes of Fulham, Aston Villa, Reading and Chelsea and his experience would be invaluable to a young Leeds side seemingly seeking more experience ion the centre of the field. But it remains to be seen if he would step down a division at this stage of his career.
Following the latest rumours we took to Twitter to see what Leeds fans thought and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@jackss71628 Barton isn't a team man sidwell would mentor the young lads and we need that. Also he's a goalscorer, at this level get a few.— Tomas Brolin (@DanOverboard1) July 5, 2015
Sidwell would be a very decent signing, being linked with some real talent this summer , most progressive summer in years Mot!— Matt (@Lufc__Fan) July 5, 2015
Leeds look at steve sidwell, can't decide wether that's good or not, got the experience but has he still got the quality???? #MOT— ben parker (@bensuperparker) July 5, 2015
I think its clear from the Barton, Eustace and now Sidwell link that an Experienced head in CM is the main target. Sidwell is a good option!— Craig (@cookster636) July 5, 2015
Think any money we have should be spent on a couple of decent wide men rather than Sidwell or Barton #lufc— markcally (@markcally8) July 5, 2015
