According to well-respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid this summer.
The latest report claims a deal was reached in the last few hours, with Tottenham paying an initial £11.4million with up to £1.4million in add-ons and that White Hart Lane now awaits the 26-year-old.
Alderweireld spent last season on loan at Southampton where he consistently impressed, playing 28 games and looking every inch a Premier League star.
He may have been deemed surplus to requirements at Atletico but Southampton quickly benefited and it now seems Tottenham have taken advantage to make his stay in England a permanent one.
A recent report from the Daily Mail claimed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was in Spain to hold key talks with Atletico in the hope of sealing a deal by Sunday night.
Well if Di Marzio is correct, Levy managed that with a day to spare, and if the Belgian international does arrive at Tottenham in the coming days it will be a wonderful piece of business and proof that Mauricio Pochettino’s side is heading in the right direction.
