The Brazilian failed to live up to expectation at Elland Road last season.
Leeds United fans who might have been perusing the French press this morning might have been feeling a sense of Deja-vu regarding the hope and optimism surrounding a young Brazilian named Adryan.
This time however it is not their fanbase who are getting over excited by the arrival of the one-time wonderkid from Flamengo.
After a largely unsuccessful season in Yorkshire the young playmaker is now in France, set to spend next season on loan with Nantes in Ligue 1.
His arrival has fans of The Canaries very excited and now the respected French paper L’Equipe has audaciously dubbed him the ‘next Zico’.
They even do their best to back up the claims throughout the piece but Leeds fans would certainly warn their Nantes counterparts to keep their optimism in check.
Leeds fans will of course remember that when he arrived at the club a year ago, that label was also attached to him,
Adryan is undoubtedly a precocious talent. He has ability to do things with a football others can only dream of. Actually doing them on a football pitch, is a different matter entirely. The fact the lasting memory of his time at Leeds will be a dodgy haircut and an even dodgier dive against Derby County is alarming.
Adryan could be a star at Nantes and Leeds fans will wonder what might have been. But given his time at Elland Road and with Cagliari in Italy, they shouldn’t hold their breath.
