Based on the latest odds provided by Sky Bet, Aston Villa have emerged as the favourites to sign out-of-favour Tottenham winger Andros Townsend.
Having formerly been linked with a move for the England international, as per the Mirror, the bookmakers have made Tim Sherwood's side the leading contenders to secure his signature before the end of the summer.
The Villa boss is said to be a big fan of the 23-year-old, who he managed during his brief spell in charge at White Hart Lane. Now, at his new club, he will apparently look to organise a reunion.
Having struggled to hold down a regular starting position under Mauricio Pochettino, Townsend - who scored two goals in 17 appearances last term - could be tempted into a fresh start in the Midlands. However, having rejected a £12 million bid last summer, Tottenham will not part ways easily with the 23-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current contract.
Townsend will be well aware he needs to be playing regularly next season to remain part of boss Roy Hodgson’s plans for the upcoming Euro 2016 championships. With his performances at international level far outweighing those for his club, the player himself will be eager to remain in the Three Lions set-up.
Villa are well accounted for on the flanks, but this will not deter Sherwood from bringing Townsend to the club. By providing competition for the likes of Jack Grealish, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Charles N'Zogbia, the English head coach will only strengthen his attacking options.
