Spurs fans give their verdict on impending Stambouli and Capoue exits

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielders look set to join Watford. But what do fans make of the developments?

According to Sky Sports, Watford have had fees agreed for Tottenham duo Benjamin Stambouli and Etienne Capoue. Stambouli is yet to agree personal terms, their report claims, while the Capoue deal is very close to completion.

And the duo's exit means Tottenham will surely strengthen in midfield - or risk being left a little light through the middle. But how do Spurs fans feel about the pair's impending exits?

Although both struggled to make an impression at White Hart Lane, it's fair to say plenty of Tottenham fans believe the midfielders should both have been given another chance.

Capoue may be a separate case. In his two seasons with Spurs, there has been limited progress under different managers. Stambouli, though, is getting particular sympathy from a lot of the White Hart Lane faithful and many feel the 24-year-old has been harshly treated by boss Mauricio Pochettino, considering he only moved to north London last summer.

As such, when discussing the duo in the comments section of HITC Sport's pages, a number of Tottenham supporters have cast disapproval over the impending double sale. Others have argued the other side...

George says: 'Two very good defensive midfielders, its a shame they obviously dont fit into what pochettino requires, but in a more conventional line up they are both very good defensively and for 10mill, its daylight robbery!!'

John says: 'Stambouli is quality , we will regret selling him out of all of them'

Matt Max says: 'Stambouli hasn't been given a chance. We need a leader in the middle and he could do a great job. I hope we only loan if he must go.'

Jonesy says: 'Stambouli is not quality; he was the cheap option and we should never have acquired his services. Capoue has talent, but unfortunately a poor attitude and a distinct lack of work rate - therefore, he will never fit in with MoPo's philosophy. One in for sure, but who? Schneiderlin would be the most preferable (but the most unlikely), alternatively McCarthy, Delph or Wanyama. If we want to improve our league position from last season, then we must buy the right players whereby PL experience is a pre-requisite.

'Toby Alderweird is a must. We then need some wide players; for example, Mirallas, Bolasie - not Moses. And finally a striker.'

South Spur says: 'capoue holding with dembele given license........SIMPLES!!!!'

Anthony Berry says: 'It appears to me Stambouli was a Levy cheap alternative buy when we could not get Schnerderlin and Poch does not rate him. I agree Stambouli should have been given more game time, but maybe Poch didn't want to encourage him to stay on.'
