Valencia are looking to bolster their defensive ranks this summer.
As per a report in the Spanish paper Super Deporte, Valencia have identified Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala as an ideal alternative should the deal to bring in Ezequiel Garay collapse.
The La Liga giants are looking to make a big push this summer, bolstering their squad in order to juggle a tough league campaign with the strains of Champions League football.
As per the report, Zenit Saint Petersburg’s highly-rated defender Garay is their number one defensive priority and it’s looking increasingly likely a deal for the Argentine will be completed.
However, should Los Che fail to wrap up a deal for the former Benfica star, Manchester City’s expensive recruit of last summer, Mangala, has been pinpointed as a solid plan B.
Should Manchester City look to keep hold of Eliaquim Mangala?
Truthfully, the acquisition of the French international from Porto was met with optimism but soon turned in to frustration as he put in a number of underwhelming performances.
In Vincent Kompany, the Citizens have a rock at the back and finding a partner anywhere near the Belgian’s standard would be a big step in the right direction.
However, Joleon Lescott, Matija Nastasic, Martin Demichelis and now Mangala have proven incapable of being up to the task, much to the frustration of boss Manuel Pellegrini.
That said, the former Standard Liege star is only 24 and has plenty of time to reach his potential, therefore City should at least persevere with him for another season to see how he develops.
