The Argentine suffered a poor first season in England and is now being linked with a move to France.
The Parisians have been released from the constraints of Financial Fair Play restrictions after being fined and punished for breaking those rules last season, and are now looking to improve their squad.
That has led them to pursue Argentine winger Di Maria, who suffered a poor first season in England last year as he failed to settle in Manchester, ending the season on the bench.
As the report in Le10Sport is keen to stress, however, they are yet to make an official offer for the player but have launched their interest nonetheless. It is believed United could ask for as much as £49.7 million for their man, which would represent a £10 million loss on the player they signed just last summer from Real Madrid.
Better to keep him at Old Trafford
Di Maria has been starring for Argentina at the Copa America, with two goals and an assist in the semi-finals catching the eye. That performance has reminded everyone of his abilities; he has not become a bad player in just a year after all.
In reality, Louis van Gaal’s side are likely to make an even bigger loss than the £10 million already mentioned should they decide to cut their losses on Di Maria.
Given the money they are likely to lose on him, it may be better for them to retain his services and see if he can replicate his international form at Old Trafford next season. His Champions League experience is also likely to prove useful as the club return to that competition next season.
Whether or not Dutchman Van Gaal is willing to give him the time to prove himself, though, is as yet unknown. At this moment in time, it looks like he isn't.
