As per a report in the Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan have asked to take Mario Suarez on a season-long loan deal with the option for a permanent agreement to be reached.
The Spanish ace was used infrequently by Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone last season, starting just 11 La Liga games while making a further eight appearances in Europe.
However, Serie A giants Inter are also on a mission to strengthen their squad significantly this summer and following the acquisition of Geoffrey Kondogbia, reports say a proposal has been tabled for Suarez.
“Mario Suarez heads Roberto Mancini’s list. Talks between Atletico Madrid and Inter are ongoing, with the offer of a loan with an obligatory purchase of roughly €10 million [£7.15 million],” the report states.
Should Tottenham rival Inter Milan’s bid?
Tottenham Hotspur are light in quality in a number of key positions, central midfield arguably being the most important area to improve this summer.
In Mousa Dembele and Benjamin Stambouli, Spurs have options there but question marks remain over their ability to really contribute to the club’s challenge at the top of the table.
Mario Suarez has shown that he is a quality player, capable of playing at Champions League level, and his experience could be vital for the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb to learn from.
