Report: Derby want to make Jason Shackell their seventh signing

Derby County Huddle

Burnley defender Jason Shackell, once linked with Newcastle United and Leeds United, is reportedly being targeted by Derby County.

Derby County are targeting Jason Shackell of Burnley as their next summer signing, according to The Derby Telegraph.

The Rams have signed six players already since the end of the 2014-15 campaign, and they are reportedly keen on adding more.

The Championship club want to recruit Burnley captain Shackell, according to The Derby Telegraph, despite having had a bid of around £2 million for the defender rejected last month.

Back in May, The Lancashire Telegraph suggested that Newcastle United and Leeds United could be interested in the 31-year-old, but those talks have cooled down.

Good signing for Derby County?

Shackell has been successful for Burnley in his three years at Turf Moor and was a key player for the Clarets in their 2014-15 Premier League campaign.

The former Barnsley defender played in all 38 league games, but he failed to prevent Burnley from getting relegated to the Championship.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man created nine chances, had a pass accuracy of 77% and a shot accuracy of 25%, and won 154 headers, two dribbles and 17 tackles.
