Real Madrid perform big U-turn on reported Liverpool target Lucas Vazquez

The Spanish winger has re-signed from Espanyol, just a couple of weeks after heading to the club.

Lucas Vazquez has performed a massive U-turn this week, well at least his club Real Madrid have.

They have brought the player back from Espanyol, just a few weeks after he looked set to join the Barcelona-based club permanently this summer.

He spent last summer at Espanyol on loan and it looked like he was there to stay. Vazquez, who has never played a senior game at Real Madrid, featured 39 times for the Barcelona club last season, scoring four goals.

Last month it was declared on the RCD Espanyol official website that Vazquez had joined the club on a contract until 2019. No fee was confirmed, but Real Madrid retained the right to purchase him back in the next two summer windows.

It seems that Rafa Benitez wanted him back sooner, as Los Blancos announced they had signed the player back on Twitter earlier this week.

Why will this interest Liverpool?

In March it was reported that Liverpool were on the verge of completing a deal to see Real Madrid youngster Lucas Vazquez arrive at the club in the summer.

The Spanish winger, was linked with a £7.2 million move to Anfield by Metro, who were quoting reports in Spain that Liverpool wanted him.

Liverpool could still do with bringing in a new winger, especially if Raheem Sterling makes his expected move away from the club.

Real Madrid may in fact be looking to sell him on rather than keep him at the club so Liverpool might just have been dealt a lifeline in their interest for the player.
