Former Arsenal player Johan Djourou says goodbye to his old friend Abou Diaby

The French international was released by the club this week.

This week has seen Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby officially leave the club after his contract expired on the 1st of July.

The French international was once tipped for greatness, and to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira as a dominant force in the heart of Arsenal’s midfield.

Unfortunately, injuries mean no such progress has ever been made.

Ever since a horror challenge from Sunderland defender Dan Smith in 2006 he has struggled over and over again with different injury problems. He has played just two games in the last two seasons at the club and Arsenal fans have forever got excited about his return before watching him fail to recover.

Now a former Arsenal player has paid his respects to Diaby.

Johan Djourou was at the club from 2003 until last summer, when he made a loan spell at Bundesliga side Hamburg SV permanent.

The Swiss international, who came through the ranks with Diaby at Arsenal, sent this message out on Twitter regarding the 29-year-old's release:

Diaby is, as reported by The Independent, in talks with MLS side FC Dallas about resurrecting his career Stateside.
