Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi reveals what he is desperate for

Messi Corner Argentina

The superstar has spoken out about his burning desire to win the Copa America against Chile tonight.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has revealed that he is desperate for Argentina to win tonight’s Copa America final against Chile, as reported by the BBC.

The Albiceleste entered the competition as favourites and have powered their way to the decider by beating Colombia on penalties and demolishing Paraguay in the semi-finals.

Messi, who captain’s Gerardo Martino’s men, has stated that the current crop of Argentina internationals are desperate to win a title as a collective and put their names in the history books.

"This generation is desperate to win a title with the national team," the 28-year-old is quoted by the BBC as saying.

"As a team, we deserve to win something and it would mean so much after the World Cup where we came so close."

Argentina were beaten in the final of the World Cup last year by Germany, with Messi failing to inspire his team to the sport’s biggest crown.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has been in sparkling form for the Camp Nou club, but has also been accused of not replicating these performances when he puts on the blue and white of Argentina.

Messi will be central to his country’s chances of winning the Copa America, with the Barcelona forward’s link-up play with Angel Di Maria, Javier Pastore and Sergio Aguero critical.
