The Senegalese international was one of the best defensive midfielders in the French top-flight last season, attracting plenty of interest and earning widespread praise.
The Sun, however, has confirmed that Aston Villa have beaten their Premier League rivals to his signature, shelling out a £9 million transfer fee and agreeing on a four-year contract.
On his switch to the West Midlands, Gueye was quoted as saying: “Everyone knows England has a league that attracts me, now this is a dream move.”
Will Idrissa Gueye be a replacement for Fabian Delph?
Gueye, 25, will provide Villa with a physical presence currently lacking in that midfield and an engine to get up and down the pitch, with or without the ball.
But questions remain as to whether he will line up alongside Fabian Delph, or replace the England international, who could end up leaving for just £8 million due to an alarmingly low release clause.
As per the report in The Sun, Manchester City are interested, but the Villans insist that he is not for sale, and instead expect him and Christian Benteke to be involved in the squad’s upcoming pre-season training.
