Watford make brave bid for Liverpool-linked Davide Zappacosta - report

The Hornets are on the recruitment drive, with Sport Italia claiming that the Atalanta star is in their sights.

Sport Italia have claimed that Watford are readying an audacious bid for Atalanta defender Davide Zappacosta, republished in Udineseblog.it.

The 23-year-old has recently been linked with Liverpool, according to Gazzetta, and admitted that a move to the Premier League would be a ‘dream’.

However, with the newly-promoted Hornets on a recruitment drive, the Reds are seemingly set to face some competition for the right-back’s signature.

The report in Udineseblog.it suggests that Watford owner Gino Pozzo wants to use his connections in his homeland to raid Serie A for the former Italy under-21 star.

Zappacosta had his breakthrough campaign in the Italian top flight last season, impressing for Atalanta in 2014-15.

With two years worth of experience playing for the Azzurri’s under-21 side to boot, the versatile full-back has become a player to attract attention of visiting scouts.

Watford have already added a number of new faces to their squad ahead of next season, with the latest Vicarage Road capture the signing of Greece international left-back Jose Holebas from Roma.

The Hornets were automatically promoted to the Premier League ahead of next season after a strong second half to 2014-15.
