Report: West Brom tie down Jonathan Leko to professional deal despite Liverpool and Chelsea interest

The Baggies have held on to a gem in the England under-17 international.

West Bromwich Albion completed an excellent move by tying down one of their top young talents to a professional deal despite interest from a bunch of Premier League big-boys, report the Daily Mail.

Last October it was reported by The Independent that Leko was being targeted by some of the best teams in the league.

They claimed the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were after the attacker who had shone in the youth system at The Baggies.

The West Brom academy has produced great talent recently, as evident with Saido Berahino. But they have also struggled to hold on to such talent, with the likes of Jerome Sinclair and Izzy Brown heading to Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.

So the report that Leko will be staying will come as a relief to Baggies fans.

The Congo-born forward, who was included in the West Brom squad for the final game of the Premier League season, has signed a three-year professional deal with West Brom according to the Mail. He will sign the remaining two years of said deal when he turns 17 next April.

Hopefully West Brom fans will get to see the England under-17 international in action sooner rather than later.
