According to the latest reports in The Sun, Tim Sherwood is awaiting permission to speak to highly-rated Nice left-back Jordan Amavi after Aston Villa lodged a £9 million bid on Thursday.
The French U21 international had a superb campaign for Nice last season, starting 36 Ligue 1 matches and being touted for a full international call-up.
As per a previous report on French website Mercato365, Amavi’s rise to prominence in France has caught the attention of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
“Tim Sherwood has tabled a stunning £9million bid for Nice left-back Jordan Amavi. Aston Villa’s boss made the offer yesterday and hopes for permission to fly in the young defender this weekend,” The Sun say.
What would Jordan Amavi offer Aston Villa?
With Villa in need of adding a new left-back this summer, moving for Amavi is ambitious considering the player’s talents and the alleged competition for his signature.
The 21-year-old has plenty of pace, is a solid crosser but importantly knows how to defend – averaging 3.9 tackles and 4.6 interceptions per league encounter last season.
Given his age, Amavi has a huge amount of potential and plenty of time to become a real hit in the Premier League, explaining why Villa are prepared to offer such a big fee.
