Report: Sunderland leading race to sign Marco van Ginkel, Dick Advocaat influence key

Chelsea midfielder van Ginkel looks set to join Sunderland ahead of Newcastle.

Sunderland are set to add a second summer signing to their ranks in the coming days, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Marco van Ginkel is expected to move to the Stadium of Light on a loan deal, as Chelsea sanction a move to ensure he receives consistent playing time in the Premier League as a way to continue his development.

The Dutch midfielder, who spent last term with AC Milan, is not likely to break into the Chelsea first-team any time soon, and a move to Sunderland looks set to be completed.

It is stated that the Dutch links due to Dick Advocaat could be key in securing a deal for van Ginkel, especially with Newcastle also showing an interest in him.

The 22-year-old is wanted by the Magpies, according to the Daily Mail, but they are set to miss out on him as Advocaat will convince him to sign with Sunderland ahead of their North East rivals.

The central midfield options need to be strengthened at the Stadium of Light, and the Black Cats are be making a real statement of intent by beating off Newcastle’s interest to sign van Ginkel.
