Report: Fresh twist in Leicester’s Kante deal, player opts for Marseille

Leicester City

Leicester City were reported to have been close to a deal for N’golo Kante.

According to a fresh report in the French publication France Football, Caen midfielder N’golo Kante has already agreed on a switch to Marseille despite strong interest from Leicester City.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been heavily linked a Premier League move over the past few weeks, The Sun previously accrediting the Foxes with an £8 million bid.

Over the past 24 hours, developments seem to have taken place as Caen’s Deputy Director Xavier Gravelaine confirmed a likely agreement with Leicester via the club’s official Twitter account.

However, the decision is ultimately down to Kante and in spite of Leicester’s attempts, fresh reports from France claim the player has already agreed to join fellow top-flight side Marseille.

“Despite the offensive Leicester and financial requirements of its leaders Caen, N'golo Kanté has already opted for Olympique Marseille,” France Football reports.

“N'golo Kanté has repeated this to his family in the last few hours, he told his relatives and his representatives that he wanted to move to La Provence. Leicester will not change his mind."

Not all is lost for Leicester

Despite the speculation regarding Kante’s preferable destination, the Foxes are still by all means in the driving seat, and the lure and financial benefit of the Premier League can prove too tempting to resist.

An earlier post on Caen’s Twitter page revealed the club’s dissatisfaction with Marseille’s attempts, labelling their offer disrespectful to both the club and the player.

If a deal between the French clubs cannot be reached, then Kante will arguably still see his future away from Caen and a switch to the King Power stadium certainly isn’t a bad alternative.
