The Magpies duo have been heavily linked with summer exits.
Pre-season is always a time when fans glance over just who is pictured in first-team training for a sign of what's to come next season. And, in Newcastle United's case, there have been some interesting faces.
Ex-Nottingham Forest duo Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow have finally linked up with the Magpies squad, while 22-year-old forward Haris Vuckic, on loan at Rangers for some of last season, was also seen in practice.
Even more interesting on Friday afternoon, though, was the presence of striker Papiss Cisse and midfielder Cheick Tiote. Both have been heavily linked with Newcastle exits this summer. The Chronicle have reported interest in the former from Turkey, while the same site have also suggested Tiote's future will be decided imminently.
There has been a suggestion, though, that neither player will leave the Magpies until replacements are signed. And their presence in pre-season training certainly backs that theory up...
With no signings having arrived at St James' Park as of yet, Newcastle may need to hang on to as many of their existing players as possible. If they stay, how big a part can Cisse and Tiote play on Tyneside next term?
