The defender has reportedly agreed a new deal, with midfielder Joe Allen likely to follow him in the penning of fresh terms.
The defender has already agreed the deal in principle and he and the club will finalise the finer details next week when he returns to pre-season training.
The Slovakian is currently in the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield and has agreed to extend his seven-year stay on Merseyside by another three years following lengthy negotiations.
The Welshman has two years left on his contract but manager Brendan Rodgers is seemingly keen to keep his former Swansea City star beyond that point. There is unlikely to be any complications in those negotiations are far as the paperwork is concerned.
A boost for Brendan Rodgers
The news of Skrtel signing a new deal will come as a big boost to Rodgers, with the defender having become a key component in his side.
He is also one of the more experienced players in a relatively youthful dressing room, with Steven Gerrard’s exit seeing him take on an even more important role at the club.
It is obvious the club are also trying to avoid situations like the one they find themselves in with Raheem Sterling, with the Reds having moved quickly to secure a number of first-team players to new deals of late - with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson all committing to fresh terms.
