Liverpool have signed highly-rated Barcelona starlet Bobby Adekanye, as per the Liverpool Echo.
The 16-year-old, who was on the radar of Dutch club's PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, confirmed the move to Anfield himself on Instagram and will join up with the club’s Academy.
Adekanye, who operates as a left winger, is expected to compete with the likes of Sheyi Ojo and Harry Wilson for a place in the Reds' academy team.
He will be seen as a player for the future, rather than someone capable of making an instant impact at senior level.
He found himself as a free agent after being involved in a dispute between Barcelona and FIFA over the recruitment of youngsters to their highly-acclaimed La Masia Academy.
His move from Ajax to the Catalan outfit in 2011 was deemed as illegal by football’s governing body, who proceeded to ban him from taking taking part in competitive games.
Adekanye has already drawn comparisons in Holland with a young Arjen Robben – praise that has seen him feature for the Netherlands national side at under-16 level.
It seems in this case that Barcelona’s loss could be Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool’s long-term gain.
