Liverpool fans react on Twitter to AC Milan signing Carlos Bacca

AC Milan beat Liverpool to the signature of Carlos Bacca.

AC Milan have got one over on Liverpool for the third time in 12 months, by beating them to the signature of Carlos Bacca.

The Colombian international sealed his transfer from Sevilla yesterday, as reported the BBC, after the Italian champions paid his £21 million release clause.

Just last summer Liverpool were sold a dud by Milan for £16 million, as the Reds snapped their hands off to buy Mario Balotelli for what they viewed as a bargain deal.

12 months later it appears anything but. Balotelli bagged just one Premier League goal, and is as ever, a firework in the dressing room which could go off at any moment.

In January, Milan also pulled off a coup, convincing promising attacker Suso to quit the Reds for the Serie A side, and they now stand to benefit from his outstanding potential.

Bacca's signing could be viewed as reinvesting the Balotelli money and then some, and was just one of two big striker deals Milan completed yesterday, also buying Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar.

The pair are top strikers with real international pedigree, something sadly that Mario Balotelli was cracked up to be, and Danny Ings and Rickie Lambert are not yet, and in the case of the latter, is unlikely to kick on.

Liverpool were strongly linked with Bacca last week, with The Guardian reporting quotes from his agent that the Reds were one of two English clubs interested in the Europa League winner.

The club have been busy in the transfer market this summer, but a top quality striker they still lack, and Bacca was both available and modestly priced. Milan's ability to sign him without having Champions League football on offer proves that it could have been done.

Many Liverpool fans have resigned themselves that the club's lack of willpower to push a move has them destined to pay more to sign Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke instead.
