Blow for Aston Villa and Newcastle United?

Deeney signing a new deal with Watford will come as a blow to Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Newcastle United, both of whom were reportedly interested in the striker.

The Daily Mail recently reported of interest from Swansea City and Newcastle, while The Mirror claimed that Everton wanted to sign the striker.

The Mirror also suggested that Aston Villa were monitoring Deeney, but it is now clear that the former Walsall star is going nowhere.

Good news for Watford

Deeney is one of the best players in the current Watford squad and has been on their books since 2010.

The 27-year-old was a key player for the Hornets in the 2014-15 campaign, firing them to Premier League promotion.

The former Walsall star scored 21 goals and created 63 chances in 42 Championship appearances.

Deeney had a pass accuracy of 62% and a shot accuracy of 59%, and won 173 headers, 32 dribbles and 37 tackles.

Retaining the services of Deeney could prove to be vital for Watford, who will be fighting for survival in the Premier League next season.
