As per an interview with reporters for the Spanish paper AS, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that Arda Turan is boss Luis Enrique’s top transfer priority.
The Atletico Madrid playmaker has long been linked with a move away from the club, his agent Ahmet Bulut previously telling Mundo Deportivo that his client is ready for a summer switch.
A self-confessed Liverpool supporter, a switch to the Reds would arguably represent a positive move for Turan considering his desire to play in an attacking-based team.
The 28-year-old would be an astute midfield signing for Barca and an ideal Xavi alternative, an understanding Luis Enrique conclusively agrees with, according to his president.
“Luis Enrique requested him. The primary objectives are Aleix Vidal and Arda. We ought to sign him, and get him incorporated into the pre-season regime,” Bartomeu told reporters.
The perfect signing?
Following the departure of club hero Xavi, a technical midfielder to compliment the likes of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic and Rafinha is very much a necessity this summer.
Turan has been deployed in a defensive-minded team built on hard work and passion, but that hasn’t stopped his attacking abilities shining through at Atletico Madrid.
He would add balance plus a regular midfield goal threat at the Nou Camp, attributes which Luis Enrique would cherish as the Catalans look to repeat last season’s historic treble feat.
