The Newcastle United legend wasn't taking any stick from a Reds fan.

Newcastle icon and former striker Alan Shearer wasn't in the mood to take abuse from a Liverpool fan on Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Indeed, the Reds supporter called Shearer an 'idiot' after he voted for Harry Kane to be on the UK cover of video game FIFA 16.

Jordan Henderson is also a contender for the accolade but ex-Newcastle man Shearer endorsed Kane's candidacy on social media.

The Liverpool fan responded but Shearer hit right back.

The Magpies legend has received heavy praise for his light-hearted exchanges since he joined Twitter - something that has no doubt done his reputation as a pundit the world of good.

Perhaps the more boring, older generation of presenters and analysts can learn to do the same - and that social media is actually a very good thing indeed if used correctly for your image.

As for the game itself, the ex-Newcastle forward is well within his rights to vote for the top English goalscorer in the Premier League last season. Sergio Aguero and Thibaut Courtois are also decent shouts but, with respect to Henderson as a player, he was nowhere near his best last term as Liverpool struggled badly. Perhaps the FIFA 17 cover if he has a good year...
