According to BetVictor, Middlesbrough are now the favourites to land former Leeds United captain Rodolph Austin on a free transfer.
The popular bookmaker have placed Boro as the favourites at 7/2, with Bolton, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday close behind with all odds shorter than 10/1.
The 30-year-old is now officially out of contract, following his release at Leeds, and looks to be favoured by clubs aiming for promotion next season rather than relegation.
The Jamaican captain will soon be away again on international duty, with the Reggae Boyz due to play Costa Rica on 8th July, so will no doubt be eager to sort out his club future before setting off.
Would Austin be a good signing for Middlesbrough?
Although Austin has plenty of Championship experience, he would no doubt have to initially accept a lesser role at Boro if he was to join due to the competition for places, and options already available.
Aitor Karanka has the likes of Grant Leadbitter, Adam Clayton and Adam Forshaw to pick from in the middle of the park and all three would be a threat to Austin getting game time.
Bolton, Forest and Wednesday would all be much more suitable moves for the all-action midfielder ahead of what could be the last big contract of his career.
