Report: Leeds could miss out on Simone Pepe, in talks with Udinese

The Leeds target could be staying in Italy, say reports.

Leeds United could miss out on former Juventus winger Simone Pepe, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Yorkshire Evening Post recently credited Leeds with an interest in the now free agent - but the 31-year-old is said to be in talks with Serie A side Udinese.

Indeed, TMW report that the Leeds target could be set to stay in Italy, with both he and the club interested in a move.

Italian off the menu

So far this summer, Leeds have steered clear of Italian signings - unlike last time around.

Sol Bamba has signed on a permanent deal but the ex-Palermo man was already on loan at Elland Road last season. Elsewhere, Lee Erwin and Chris Wood have joined the Whites - no sign of any Serie B recruits there.

It appears a sensible approach and could have a lot to do with Adam Pearson and Martyn Glover taking responsibility off the busy Massimo Cellino's hands when it comes to signing players.

That said, if Leeds were to sign an Italian, Pepe would be the way to go. Far from Serie B, the 31-year-old was Juventus material and is an Italy international.
