The 22-year-old left-back recently signed a new five-year deal with the Toffees, and it looks as if he will spend the next campaign away from the club to guarantee consistent first-team football.
Bournemouth have previously been linked with making a move for him, but as they recently signed Tyrone Mings from Ipswich, it is unlikely that they will continue their interest in Garbutt.
The defender has impressed whenever turning out for Everton and the England Under-21 team, and although he is considered a bright talent for the future, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is unwilling to offer him a consistent first-team role.
This has brought around the need to move to a fellow Premier League side to develop and gain experience, and Villa are leading the race to sign him.
Tim Sherwood is one the lookout for a new left-back, with Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson expected to leave this summer, and he has seen enough of Garbutt to suggest he can already cut it in the Premier League.
There are no indications as to whether Villa have yet to make an approach for Garbutt, or as to which other clubs are chasing his signature, but it is expected that Sherwood will make a move for the young defender in the coming weeks.
