The Tottenham Hotspur forward admits he looks back and thinks what may have been had he not scored that goal back in November.
The young forward enjoyed a magnificent 2014/15 season as he finished as the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League with an impressive tally of 21 goals.
He quickly became Spurs’ star man with a number of impressive performances and stellar displays, but he says his dramatic effort against Aston Villa was the standout moment of his first season as a first-team regular.
“My goal against Aston Villa in November was the defining moment for me,” he told premierleague.com.
“I came off the bench and managed to score a free kick in the last minute of the game to win the match. That set the ball rolling, [it’s] something I look back at and think what would have happened if that hadn’t have gone in.”
Increased expectation and increased pressure next season
While Kane upped his game last season, he will arguably have to go one step further next year if he is to prove he is not just a one-season wonder.
That is likely to be a tough challenge, though, with Premier League defenders now fully aware of his abilities and how to set about trying to nullify him effectively.
There will also be the added expectation from the fans to deal with, as they will surely be looking for him to replicate his achievements from 2014/15.
Whether he sparkles next season remains to be seen, but for now Kane can sit back and reflect on that Aston Villa goal which ended up sparking such a stellar showing in the Premier League.
