Arsenal transfer round-up: Pole position for William Carvalho; Loan fee agreed for Carl Jenkinson

A selection of the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates.

Arsenal appear to be in pole position to sign William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon, according to the Daily Star.

The Portuguese international, who recently starred at the European Under-21 Championships, is a long term target for both Arsenal and Manchester United.

They claim that Arsenal will be hoping to snap him up for £19.8 million as Manchester United change their attention to Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.

The future of Carl Jenkinson remains up in the air. The right-back is wanted back at West Ham, report the Daily Mail, where he spent a season on loan last term.

Sunderland however remain keen and, according to the Sunderland Echo, have already agreed a £2.5 million loan fee with Arsenal for the player.

Jenkinson has fallen below Mathieu Debuchy, Hector Bellerin and Callum Chambers in the pecking order at Arsenal.

Alexis Sanchez reportedly wants his international team-mate Eduardo Vargas at The Emirates, after enjoying a great link-up with the player at this summer’s Copa America with Chile, as reported by the Daily Star.

The Napoli forward, who spent last season in London on loan at QPR, would be a shock move but could add some depth to the striking positions.
