Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a Spanish midfielder and he has the skill-set to really benefit Mauricio Pochettino's side.
According to a report from GianlucadiMarzio.com, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez, and it would be a wonderful piece of business if Spurs managed to sign the Spaniard.
Recent headlines relating to Mauricio Pochettino’s club have been about who is leaving rather than who may arrive, with Paulinho and Lewis Holtby both agreeing permanent exits to Guangzhou Evergrande and Hamburg respectively, but the latest rumour relating to Suarez should excite the White Hart Lane faithful.
Suarez is the kind of defensive midfielder Tottenham have been crying out for, an experienced footballer who would bring both nous and talent to the club and ease the pressure on Pochettino’s younger players.
For all the faith in youth there needs to be some experience in there, too, and Suarez has it in abundance while still being young enough to justify a long-term contract.
The alleged Tottenham target has played 183 times for an Atletico side that has blossomed in recent campaigns, featuring 35 times last season (including eight times in the Champions League) and 25 times the previous year.
He would have played more had it not been for an injury that side-lined him in the middle of what became a title-winning campaign for Diego Simeone’s side and, for what could be a knock-down price, he would be a savvy addition to this Tottenham team.
When you consider the money Spurs received for Paulinho it would make sense to reinvest that into the squad, signing a player who has been an integral part of a very successful side in recent seasons but one who may now be set to move on.
Youth is vital but so too is experience and, if Pochettino gets it right, next season could be a very impressive one at the Lane.
