To say the 26-year-old was a massive disappointment would be a massive understatement...

The fact that says it all about Paulinho’s time at Tottenham Hotspur: he became more famous for the above video than any other moment during his White Hart Lane career.

Indeed, the Brazilian’s woeful miss against Burnley last season was the most memorable thing he did in a white shirt - for the wrong reasons, of course - very much summing up Paulinho’s Tottenham spell.

He arrived in north London with so much promise. But, like so many of Spurs’ signings in recent years, that promise never amounted to anything real.

It’s telling that, of Tottenham’s long list of out-of-favour players - Etienne Capoue, Emmanuel Adebayor and Younes Kaboul are all included - Paulinho was the first to go.

Spurs were clearly keen to offload the 26-year-old, while he hit the jackpot in terms of Luiz Felipe Scolari being in charge of a side in China. Scolari is probably the managerial equivalent of Paulinho…

At the end of the day, despite plenty of good wishes from many Tottenham fans, it just never worked out for the Brazilian. And his miss against Burnley encapsulated a signing that flattered to deceive on so many levels.
