Report: Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi set for Wolves loan

The 23-year old will reportedly sign a new deal with the Magpies before heading to Kenny Jackett's team on a season-long loan.

The immediate future of one of Newcastle United’s academy graduates looks to be secured after reports emerged, via ESPN, that Sammy Ameobi is set to sign a new contract.

Ameobi’s current deal is due to expire at the end of this month and the Magpies have seemingly acted just in time to tie down the forward.

He is expected to be loaned out upon signing the new deal, and a host of Championship clubs were rumoured to be interested in his services.

Cardiff City were one such interested party but they now appear to have been gazumped by Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to ESPN.

What does the future hold for Ameobi?

Sending a 23-year old out on loan isn’t usual practice if the club feels he has a future with them.

Ameobi’s contract situation meant Newcastle faced the prospect of losing the attacker for nothing this summer, but tying him to a new deal should ensure value in a future sale.

The loan move seems to be a shop window placement and his value will increase considerably should he excel in the Championship next season.

He has managed just four goals in his 66 Newcastle appearances and has never really suggested he’s capable of commanding a place in the first-team in the long-term and there's every chance next season's loan deal is simply a stop gap before the Geordie lad is edged fully out the door.
