Newcastle are reportedly pursuing Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye this summer.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle are interested in signing Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye during this summer's transfer window.
The Magpies may have appointed new manager Steve McClaren last month, but they have yet to bring in any new signings so far this summer.
Reinforcements are needed all over the pitch having only narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship on the final day of the Premier League season, and Newcastle are now reportedly interested in signing Lille star Gueye.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been a regular for Lille, and whilst the Daily Mail believe that Crystal Palace and West Ham are in the race to sign Gueye, Tutto Mercato Web believe that Newcastle are also chasing the Senegal international.
Newcastle have raided Lille in recent years for right back Mathieu Debuchy and midfielder Yohan Cabaye, and having witnessed their success on Tyneside, the Magpies could return to swoop on the French club yet again, this time for Gueye if reports are to be believed.
What would Gueye bring to Newcastle?
Gueye, 25, was a key player for Lille last season, impressing with his athletic ability in the centre of midfield for the Ligue 1 side.
With great stamina and the ability to go from box-to-box, Gueye could be a real force alongside Jack Colback in the Newcastle midfield.
Much will depend on the future of Cheick Tiote under new boss McClaren, but if he wants to add an energetic, athletic midfielder, Gueye could be his man.
