Report: Konoplyanka to reject Tottenham for Atletico Madrid move

The winger has been interesting a number of clubs but looks set for a move to La Liga.

Yevhen Konoplyanka is set to reject Tottenham Hotspur for a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The Ukrainian is a free agent as his contract with Dnipro has now expired, and he has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe and several in the Premier League.

Tottenham were thought to be chief amongst his suitors in England, according to sources such as the Metro, but it now appears he will reject a move to White Hart Lane in favour of a move to Atletico so that he can play in the Champions League, claims Mundo Deportivo.

It is the winger’s excellent performances in the Europa League last season which have sparked such fervent interest in his services, but it now seems he isn’t interested in performing in that competition again next season, which could be a blow to Spurs.

A boost in the race for Arda Turan

It is likely Konoplyanka would be a replacement for Arda Turan, who looks set to leave the Vincente Calderon this summer.

His free signing would be a great deal for Diego Simeone’s side, and could also come as a boost to several Premier League sides in their pursuit of Turan, with Konoplyanka’s arrival likely to speed up the Turk’s exit.

Currently both Manchester United and Chelsea are thought to be battling it out for the winger, with the Blues thought to be leading their rivals according to Marca
