However, the Everton boss has no intention of selling Coleman himself, with the West Brom man purely targeted as a back-up. The report suggests Manchester United are in for the full-back, with Martinez aware of their interest.
Would the move make sense?
The Mail's suggestion certainly makes sense. Gamboa has struggled for game time at West Brom, meaning the club may consider him dispensable, while he will likely consider the opportunity of a greater role elsewhere.
That being said, Coleman will still be a clear first choice at Everton - so trading one bit-part role for another may not necessarily be in the 25-year-old's best interests.
The important thing for the Toffees, of course, is that Martinez appears to be taking a strong stance over Coleman. For Tony Pulis, meanwhile, a potential Gamboa sale could present the opportunity to regenerate some transfer funds for West Brom.
