According to reports from talkSPORT, Southampton could be one of three Premier League clubs to lose out on Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra, with Barcelona set to register their interest in the midfielder.
Indeed, amid reported interest from Ronald Koeman's side, as well as West Brom and West Ham, the 27-year-old is high on the wanted list of Barcelona presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu, who has vowed to land his signature if he is re-elected with the Catalan giants in July.
Iborra had apparently been lined up by Southampton as an ideal replacement for the departing Morgan Schneiderlin. The Frenchman, who looks set to join Manchester United in the near future, according to the Daily Star, has been an indispensable asset at St. Mary's since his arrival. As such, it will take a worthy successor to fill his boots.
Sevilla boss Unai Emery is desperate to hold on to his prized asset, and understandably so. Iborra, who can play either as an advanced or more restricted central midfielder, made 26 appearances for the La Liga outfit, ending the season as the club’s third highest goalscorer.
An accomplished finisher, as well as an effective protector of the back-four, the Spaniard’s ability in both the first and final third could make him the perfect replacement for fan favourite Schneiderlin. However, latest news suggests they could yet miss out, with Barcelona set to come calling.
