Aston Villa are considering a surprise move to sign midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, report The Sun.
Cambiasso is a free agent after his one-year deal with Leicester City expired, and he is expected to be highly sought after.
The Sun had claimed last month that West Ham were also looking at the Argentine.
Cambiasso was voted as Leicester's player of the season by fans, but their own efforts to convince him to renew are likely to be harmed by Nigel Pearson's sacking.
The midfielder turns 35 in August, but showed enough last season to prove he can be a real asset for any side in the Premier League.
|Team||Passing Accuracy||Key Passes per game||Won Tackles per game||Interceptions per game||Successful Final Third Passes per game||Goals||Assists||Appearances|
Cambiasso settled into the pace of Premier League football with ease, which clubs perhaps had reservations about given his whole career was spent in La Liga and Serie A beforehand.
He would become a very short-term solution at Villa, but for the likes of Fabian Delph, playing alongside the former Inter Milan Champions League winner would be invaluable.
With a more telling offensive contribution for Leicester than Tom Cleverley's three for Villa last year and no assists, he would also surely be an upgrade on the former England midfielder who turned the club down to sign with Everton instead.
