HITC Sport understands from sources close to the deal that Reading have wrapped up the signing of former Hull City defender Paul McShane.
The Republic of Ireland international is available as a free agent after leaving the Tigers at the end of his contract.
He was unable to prevent them slipping out of the Premier League last season, and will now be lining up against them in the Championship in the 2015/16 campaign.
Manchester United academy graduate McShane is a proven performer at the highest level, with over 250 senior appearances split between the likes of Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Hull.
He has also been capped on 31 occasions by his country.
The combative 29-year-old will be hoping to add that tally while with the Royals, with a medical passed on Wednesday.
McShane is now clear to link up with Steve Clarke’s side, joining familiar face Stephen Quinn at the Madejski Stadium – another ex-Hull man to have joined Reading on a Bosman this summer.
