New Real Madrid signing Danilo explains why he chose them over Barcelona

Bernabeu Inside

Brazilian right-back Danilo has completed his transfer to Real Madrid.

New Real Madrid right-back Danilo has explained that playing at the Santiago Bernabeu has been a lifelong dream of his and was ultimately responsible for his decision, Marca report.

The ex-Porto ace had plenty of suitors following a string of impressive performances for Porto, including interest from the Premier League, Bayern Munich and El Clasico rivals Barcelona, as per the report in Marca.

The chance to play alongside his international teammate Neymar and the opportunity to join a club destined for yet another memorable treble would have been extremely tempting for Danilo.

However, when it came to making his big decision, the former Santos man told reporters that he only ever wanted to play in Madrid, regardless of interest or financial benefits elsewhere.

He said: “I never had any doubts, from the moment there was interest from Real Madrid, I wanted to go there. Economically it didn’t matter, I always wanted to play in Madrid, and I always liked the club.”

What will Danilo bring to Real Madrid?

Initially a winger, Danilo has plenty of pace and attacking intent to get down the right flank and provide an option different to that of regular right-backs Daniel Carvajal or Alvaro Arbeloa.

Complimenting Marcelo well on the opposite side, the 23-year-old can hold his position well when asked of him and his six league goals last season prove he is capable of finding the net.

Moreover, standing at 6 feet tall, he would give Rafa Benitez’s side more height at set pieces, a part of Madrid’s game which was often exposed last season both in La Liga and in the Champions League.
