Liverpool transfer round-up: Two deals completed, Benteke becomes number one target

All the latest summer transfer news from Anfield...

Liverpool confirmed their latest summer signing on their official website earlier today, with Southampton right back Nathaniel Clyne signing a 'long-term contract' at Anfield.

The England international, 24, has impressed during his time with Southampton, but now follows former Saints team-mates Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to Merseyside.

Clyne becomes Liverpool's sixth summer signing, joining Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings in arriving at Anfield.

Liverpool completed two deals today, but the other one was an outgoing, with centre back Sebastian Coates joining Premier League rivals Sunderland permanently.

The Uruguayan spent last season on loan with the Black Cats, and has now signed for the club on a permanent basis, as confirmed on Liverpool's official website.

Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo report that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has now emerged as Brendan Rodgers' primary target this summer.

The Belgian striker, 24, has a £32.5m release clause according to the report, but Liverpool are only willing to pay £25m for the forward - a bid Aston Villa are unlikely to accept as the Reds pursue another centre forward.
