Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Tiago Ilori's European under-21 Final performance

Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori impressed for Portugal again.

Liverpool centre back Tiago Ilori came within a penalty shootout of capping his impressive under-21 European Championships with a trophy.

The defender put in another standout performance for Portugal in the final against Sweden, keeping a clean sheet as the game ended a 0-0 draw after extra time.

Ilori was composed throughout, completing 91 per cent of his passes and making 13 clearances, as he battled to keep John Guidetti quiet.

He took on Tottenham and England's Harry Kane and came out on top early in the tournament, and has shown since that display was no flash in the pan.

Ilori was signed from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon two seasons ago, and has been on loan at Granada and Bordeaux ever since.

With a new season on the horizon, Ilori will be hoping he has done enough to earn a shot at the Liverpool first team, whose defence was inconsistent last season, and at times just plain awful.

Here is a look at how supporters reacted to his display...

I'd have zero beef if Ilori started away to Stoke on the first day of the new season. #U21EURO #LFC

Ilori will definitely take over from Skrtel in a season or 2. I've said it before and I'll say it again. #LFC

Tiago Ilori has more European experience than Brendan Rodgers and Sean O'Driscoll :)

Liked the look of Ilori. If he stays fit, I'd like to see him have a go.
