Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Nathaniel Clyne signing

Clyne Tackles Gervinho

The defender left Southampton to sign with Liverpool.

As confirmed by the official Liverpool website, Clyne completed a transfer to Anfield on Wednesday, signing a long-term contract.

The full-back made 94 appearances in the Premier League for Southampton, having joined the club in 2012 from Crystal Palace. He built a solid reputation on the South Coast, becoming one of the best full-backs in the Premier League and a fully-capped English international.

The 24-year-old becomes the fourth Southampton player to sign for Liverpool since last summer, along with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren. He is also the sixth signing Liverpool have made this summer, with James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Roberto Firmino and Joe Gomez already agreeing deals.

Clyne’s capture was a wise move for Liverpool, seeing as Glen Johnson left the club at the end of his contract. The right-back has proven Premier League talent, experience and still has age on his side. If he establishes himself in the first-team, the Merseyside club will have gained the benefits of a top level defender for the next decade.

Following the completion of the deal, Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to the signing, with many Reds fans impressed with the transfer.
