Liverpool were reportedly chasing teenager Dejan Sarac.
Liverpool were in the hunt to buy new Lazio signing Dejan Sarac, report Tuttomercatoweb.
Lazio signed the 17-year-old central midfielder this week from Austrian Bundesliga club Admira Wacker.
Sarac has been dubbed the 'new Pogba' by Italian outlet Cinquequotediano, although he is yet to play a first team game.
Lazio sporting director Igli Tare told Tuttomercatoweb that Europe's top clubs were interested in Sarac.
He said: "He is a midfielder who can also act as a playmaker. He was wanted by Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Atalanta."
Such declarations only serve to enhance fan satisfaction at Lazio, and may be a little self-serving for Tare, but if accurate, he is within his rights to share the information.
Sarac is an Austrian under-18 international, who Cinquequotediano described as having speed, technical talent, and excellent reading of the game.
Liverpool have talented young midfielders in their ranks already, particularly in the form of Jordan Williams, who made the bench last season, although time will tell is Sarac turns out to be a big miss, or a player they could happily do without.
